Hollywood Walk of Fame unveils new stars; Thalia
The honorees for 2013 are announced.
The Hollywood Walk of Fame announced the lucky celebrities who will have the privilege of paying $30,000 each to have chewed gum plastered all over their names on sidewalks abutting Hollywood Blvd. and neighboring environs in 2013.
Actress Marg Helgenberger (of “CSI” fame and herself a gum-decorated celeb) trumpeted the new honorees at the Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel on Friday. The stars who get stars and the subsequent gum as well as a bill for $30,000 are divided into four categories: Motion pictures, Television, Recording and Live Theatre/Performance.
They are (drum roll, please): Helen Mirren, Jennifer Hudson, James Franco, the Backstreet Boys, Javier Bardem, Viola Davis, Simon Baker, Bryan Cranston, Jane Lynch, Katey Segal, Matthew Perry, Ellen DeGeneres and Olympia Dukakis – take a breath – Penn & Teller, Rick Baker (a makeup artist), Ron Howard, Steve Harvey and “Shotgun” Tom Kelly (both from radio) – nearing the end – Jane’s Addiction, New Kids on the Block, Janis Joplin, Usher, Thalia, and Luther Vandross.As Joplin and Vandross have passed on to a better place, they are personally excused from paying the $30,000 but they’ll still get the gum.
